Modules

What is the aim?

Jean Monnet Modules are designed to:

  • promote research and first teaching experience for young research, scholars, and practitioners on EU issues
  • raise interest in the EU and create the basis for future poles of European knowledge
  • foster the introduction of a European angle into certain fields of study
  • deliver tailor-made courses on specific EU issues relevant for graduates in their professional life
  • foster the publication and dissemination of the results of academic research

The Modules aim to provide more information and knowledge on the EU to more citizens as well as make EU affairs more mainstream.

What is the opportunity?

Erasmus+ offers the opportunity for higher education institutions (HEIs) to host a short teaching programme or course in the field of EU studies. A Module can be:

  • a general or introductory course on EU issues
  • specialised teaching on EU developments
  • fully recognised summer courses or intensive courses.

How does it work?

An organisation intending to apply must be a HEI established anywhere in the world. If the HEI is from a Programme Country, it must hold a valid Erasmus Charter for Higher Education.

A Module must be three years in length and must have a minimum duration of 40 teaching hours per academic year.

The 40 teaching hours required include group lectures, seminars, and tutorials, including in a distance learning format, but not individual instruction.

HEIs are expected to support and promote Module coordinators and promote participation in the course or programme. They are also expected to maintain the activities of the Module throughout the duration of the project.

What else should you know?

If the coordinator of a Module needs to be replaced, a written request must be sent to the Education, Audiovisual, and Culture Executive Agency, and the proposed replacement must have the same level of specialisation as the outgoing coordinator.

How do you apply?

Organisations interested in applying should do so through Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency.
